Patron of Flag Day Australia, Doug Sutherland AM
Flag Day Australia is honoured to have as its patron Doug Sutherland, a long standing supporter of the Australian National Flag, and legendary in his services to our city of Sydney.
Doug Sutherland was Lord Mayor of Sydney (Australian Labor Party) from 1980 to 1987. His service to local government in Sydney throughout his career has been extensive, serving on local councils as either Alderman or Mayor from 1959 to 1993, covering the councils of Burwood, Ashfield and Sydney. He has also served on various local government panels, tribunals and committees. He received the Member of the Order of Australia in 1979 for services to local government.
